Extending their support to Anna Hazare, the Adivasi community here today staged a dharna in protest against the Centre's ordinance on Land Acquisition and for formation of the Jan Lokpal Bill.

Hundreds of tribals including women laced with traditional weapons like bows and arrows assembled in front of the East Singhbhum district headquarter here under the banner of Akhil Bharatiya Adivasi Mahasabha and staged the sit-in demanding immediate withdrawal of the ordinance.

They also demanded formation of the Jan Lokpal Bill immediately.

District committee president of the Mahasabha Krishna Hansda said the dharna was staged in support of social activist Anna Hazare, who kicked off an agitation in protest against the Centre's move to amend the Land Acquisition Act.

Hansda said the Mahasabha would continue to organise such demonstrations at block levels till their demand was met.

Later, a delegation of the Mahasabha met the Deputy Commissioner and handed over a memorandum in support of their demands addressed to the Jharkhand Chief Minister.
