Disguised as a customer, Additional District Magistrate (ADM) Ravindra Kumar queued outside a liquor shop in civil lines area here and caught the shopkeeper for over charging.
Acting on customers' complaints against the shop, Kumar yesterday conducted the surprise raid and temporarily suspended its licence after finding irregularities in the prices charged there.
"The shopkeeper asked me to pay Rs 390 for a quarter size bottle against the prescribed rate of Rs 385," he said, adding the licence of the shop has been temporarily suspended.
Meanwhile, the District Excise Officer said "a fine of Rs 5000 will be slapped on him if his explanation is found unsatisfactory".
