The VHP called an emergency meeting at its local head quarters Kar Sewak Puram here yesterday to discuss the situation after the directives of the court.

"In Hanuman Garhi temple, the religious system is being carried on since its establishment and all practices are going on without any hindrances," senior VHP leader and president of Ram Janam Bhumi Nyas, Mahant Nritya Gopal Das, said.

He said that "restricting the independent traditions of Hanuman Garhi is not justified in any way."

On November 8, a division bench of Allahabad High Court, expressing serious concern over various litigations pertaining to management and properties of the temple, has asked the UP government to appoint a senior bureaucrat as an administrator of the temple.

However, the chief priest of the temple, Mahant Gyan Das, reacting over VHP's reaction said that "we do not need any assistance of communal forces in any of the business of Hanuman Garhi."

"These VHP leaders are trying to flare up the atmosphere of the temple town by taking the court's decision on communal lines," the priest said.

The court has just sought an advice from the government in this connection, said Gyan Das.

Hanuman Garhi temple of Ayodhya was built by Nawab Shujuaddualah in the beginning of 19th century, the then ruler of Awadh.

Member of central advisory committee of VHP, Siya Kishori Sharan, said that in South India most of the temples have become government offices after being acquired by the local administrations, here in Ayodhya also the state government wants to establish its office in Hanuman Garhi.

The court has also directed the government to consider whether a trust can be created for the temple on the pattern of Kashi Vishwanath Temple in Varanasi.
