Internationally renowned Malayalam film director Adoor Gopalakrishnan has lamented that houses were being built neglecting the ancient architecture of Kerala.

In Kerala a number of people were building homes not according to their requirements, but to beat others in size, he said inaugurating the new campus of ASADI (Asian School of Architecture and Design Innovations) here on Tuesday.

"Homes are being built, totally neglecting the ancient architecture of the state, denying proper light and air flow inside", he said, according to an ASADI release.

Following the advertisements of paint companies, some of the houses were being painted with ultra dark colours.

"The inmates of these homes may be comfortable only while they get outside of their houses", Adoor quipped and exhorted Keralaties to change their attitude on homes.

State Fisheries and Ports Minister K Babu presided over the function.
