: Lt Governor of Puducherry Lt General (retired) A K Singh today asked the police department to ensure that stringent measures are taken to curb activities of anti-social and other bad elements in the Union Territory.

Singh, who holds the gubernatorial post under additional charge here, stated this after meeting top officials and said that preventive action should be taken by police and people's confidence for peaceful and protected life should also be ensured.

He reviewed the law and order situation and also traffic related issues at the meeting with officials.

Singh is Lt Governor of Andaman and Nicobar Islands and has been holding the post here under additional charge since July 17 last year after his predecessor Virendra Kataria left Puducherry as per the directions of the Central government.

Kataria had been in a war of words with Chief Minister N Rangasamy.
