With the presence of several automobile companies on the outskirts of the city, the need for advanced manufacturing technology was more in the region, an industry official said.
"As the Indian automobile manufacturing market becomes more competitive, the need for innovative technology is assuming greater importance," Taiwan External Trade Development Council (TAITRA) Chennai, Director, Dave Tsai said at a seminar here on 'Taiwan Automobile Manufacturing Forum'.
Modern machine tools and advanced manufacturing technologies play a critical role in production of high precision parts, he said adding selecting a right machine tool partner has become even more important for autombile manufacturers and related supply chains.
Several auto companies including Ford Motor, Hyundai Motor India, Royal Enfield, Renault-Nissan Automobile India Pvt Ltd and India Yamaha have set up manufacturing facilities on the outskirts of Chennai,
India is one of the major importers of Taiwan-made machine tools, Tsai said and added in the first four months of 2018, the total imports from Taiwan to India grew by 45 per cent as compared to same period of last year.
