The advisory was issued by Divisional Commissioner, Kashmir, Asgar Samoon, following reports of land brokers in connivance with some revenue officials luring buyers under the grab of power of attorney obtained from migrants for clandestine sale of properties without proper permission.

"The Divisional Commissioner's Office is the only competent authority to permit alienation of migrant immovable properties under law. The clandestine sale of these properties not only violate law but also cause loss to the state exchequer," a notification issued yesterday said.

On several occasions, the notification said, such power of attorney have been withdrawn by migrant owners in the Kashmir Valley.

"In several cases, it is apprehended that the original migrants may have passed away and fresh power of attorneys need to be obtained from their legal heirs which need to be ascertained from the Relief Commissioner, Migrants," it said.

In order to curb this menace and to streamline such transactions, attorneys holding individuals or groups or associations and the public at large are informed to produce such power of attorneys at the Divisional Commissioner's officer for further verification of such documents within a period of one week, the notification added.
