An advocate has been arrested here for allegedly extorting money from people by making phone calls posing as senior government and police officer.

Accused, Muni Raj Chauhan, who was arrested yesterday, was using a special software in his mobile phone with the help of which he could hack the phone numbers of senior officers, police said.

A businessman, Saurabh Mathur, had filed a police complaint, alleging that unidentified persons had been demanding Rs 50,000 from him using different phone numbers, Superintendent of Police Rajesh Krishna said.

After the complaint, police laid a trap and on their advice Mathur put the money at the spot where he was told by the callers.

When Muni Raj Chauhan came to collect the money he was nabbed by the crime branch sleuth.
