A senior police officer was allegedly manhandled in Gorakhpur district today by some advocates, who held a grudge against the officer for reportedly stopping them from grabbing land, police said here.

Circle Officer Bansgaon Vijay Shanker Mishra was manhandled by four to five lawyers when he had gone to get a statement recorded in an SC/ST case, IG (Law and Order) Rajkumar Vishwakarma told reporters here.

Some advocates had earlier tried to grab a land, which was stopped by the officer, who also took action, and this might have led to Mishra being manhandled, Vishwakarma said.

A named FIR was being lodged, he said.
