Responding to a letter written by Maharashtra Health Minister Suresh Shetty following his TV show 'Satyamev Jayate' last month, Aamir said, "I urge you to follow the example of Rajasthan in Maharashtra so that good quality medicines are available to the people at even one-tenth cost of branded medicines."
He said Rajasthan government's efforts came to his notice while doing research for the show.
The minister had requested Aamir to associate himself with the government's ongoing initiatives.
Aamir thanked the minister for appreciating his TV show which had begun with the issue of female foeticide.
"I am happy to know from your letter, details of various steps Maharashtra has taken to arrest the declining child sex ratio," he said.
When asked about Aamir's suggestion, Shetty said the state government has already taken a decision to purchase generic medicines.
"The implementation will begin now and the tender process for which will start. The government plans to have atleast one outlet providing generic medicines in each division on a trial basis,"he said.
