A senior official of the Afghanistan Government has been arrested in Calangute village in Goa after police raided a guest house and rescued two Uzbek women suspected to be involved in flesh trade, police said Monday.
The accused Mohammad Omar Arian (28) has been booked under provisions of the Prevention of Immoral Trafficking Act (PITA), Calangute police inspector Nolasco Raposo said, adding that the raid was conducted Sunday night.
He said Arian is working as Director of Internal Audit, Ministry of Communication and Information Technology, Afghanistan Government.
Police also arrested another Afghan national Mohammad Ajmal Hodama (41), a lawyer, along with Arian.
Both the accused are currently lodged at Calangute police station.
During the raid, police rescued two women from Uzbekistan, aged 27 and 36.
One of them was found to be living in Goa without a valid passport, following which she has been booked under Foreigners Act.
