Afghan held for smuggling heroin worth Rs 40 lakh

An Afghan national has been arrested for allegedly trying to smuggle into the country heroin valuing about Rs 40 lakh at Indira Gandhi International Airport (IGIA) here.

The accused was intercepted by the customs officials after his arrival from Kabul. A search was conducted which resulted in the recovery of white coloured substance from him, a press release issued today by the customs said.

"The recovered white coloured substance weighing 172 grams in preliminary testing gave positive result for heroin having estimated market value of Rs 40 lakh approximately in international market," it said.

The passenger, who had arrived here on Wednesday, has been arrested, the release said.
