Afghan man arrested with heroin, used to smuggle it as

A 40-year-old Afghan national has been arrested with over 500 gm heroin, a substance he used to smuggle to India from Afghanistan in the form of ingested pellets, the police said today.

In the last few months, the Delhi Police's Special Cell has been working on different modules of international drug cartels in Delhi and other parts of India.

It came to light that an Afghan national, Qari Mohd Hanif alias Samadi, has been involved in supplying premium quality heroin to prospective buyers in the NCR region from Afghanistan, the police said.

On October 27, police said it got to know about Hanif reaching Delhi from Afghanistan with a consignment of heroin for delivering in south Delhi's Mehrauli, the police said.
 

A trap was laid near Madhi Masjid, Sri Devpurji Ashram Marg, Mehrauli, and Hanif was arrested with 525 grammes of heroin, said P S Kushwah, Deputy Commissioner of Police (Special Cell).

During interrogation, Hanif said that he brings the ingested heroin pellets from his handlers in Afghanistan to sell it to dealers in NCR and other states, he added.

Hanif also told police that he had taken a room on rent in Lajpat Nagar here to keep drugs. Police recovered more than 575 grammes of heroin from his rented room.

He had two Afghanistan passports and had visited India five times since May with close to three kilogrammes of ingested heroin pellets worth over Rs six crore in international market, said the officer.

Hanif is a post-graduate in law from Khwaja Musafir College, Kabul (Afghanistan). He has two wives and six children, police said.

His father was in the Afghanistan Army and was killed about 10 years ago while fighting Taliban militants, said the officer.

He was having a government job in Afghanistan. In the year 2012-13, he visited Delhi for his wife's treatment and stayed here for over two months.

In March, Hanif visited Jalalabad in Afghanistan on an official tour and stayed there for a couple of days.

During this stay, he met one Jabatur who offered him USD 800 for each trip to India to carry 'heroin pellets'. Jabatur arranged his meeting with the main drug dealer Mahpir who gave him contacts of drug receivers in India, the police said.
