With the arrest of an Afghan national, and recovery of four kg of cocaine worth Rs 20 crore from him, Delhi Police today claimed to have busted an international drug cartel whose roots are spread as far as South American and African nations.
One Ahmad Jawid alias Nabi (46) a resident of Afghanistan was arrested by a team of Special Cell of Delhi Police on February 10, four kg of crack cocaine was recovered from him, police said.
"In the last couple of months, our team was working upon different modules of interconnected international drug cartels which were active in Delhi," said Deputy Commissioner of Police (Special Cell) Sanjeev Kumar Yadav.

The interrogations of various arrested persons over the previous few months, from whom huge quantities of heroin was recovered, had revealed that apart from heroin, Afghanistan based drug lords had also ventured into the trafficking of cocaine, he said.
"It was also learnt that they were developing a far reaching alliance with cocaine producers of South American and certain African nations for devising new routes of trafficking into Asia which has seen emergence as a new consumption market owing to the general rise in economic prosperity," he said.
While developing this alarming aspect of drug trade, police learnt that an Afghan national namely Nabi was residing in Delhi for the past couple of months and was locating prospective buyers to dispose off a consignment of cocaine which was in his possession.
It was also revealed that this Nabi had been living somewhere in the walled city area of Old Delhi. As per the informer, the syndicate to which Nabi belonged was being handled by one Gafoor, reportedly an Afghan national who resides intermittently in Afghanistan and Pakistan and orchestrates the functioning of his cartel using different international numbers of Pakistan and Afghanistan, police said.
