An Afghan official says two people died after their motorbike hit a mine in northern Sari Pul province.

Naqib Agha, provincial police spokesman, said today that the mine detonated when the motorbike drove over it in the Sayad district.

Agha says the mine was planted by the Taliban but so far no one has claimed responsibility.

In Kunar province, bordering Pakistan, a drone strike on Sunday killed 14 insurgents in the Dangam district, a longtime hotbed of insurgent activity, according to Abdul Habib Sayedkhili, the province's chief of police.
