An Afghan official says that Afghan security forces retook the control of the Ghormach district in the northwestern province of Fayrab after it was overran by the Taliban several days ago.
Baryalia Basharyar, deputy provincial police chief of Faryab, said on Saturday that government forces raised the Afghan flag over the district headquarters this morning after a three-day air-and-ground offensive.
Basharyar also confirmed that Ghormach district police chief Abdul Majid along with 12 other policemen had been killed by the Taliban after they were captured alive last week.
Taliban fighters launched a surprise attack and took control of the district on October 18.
