Athletics Federation of India President Adille Sumariwalla will stand for elections for one of the nine individual member seats of the world governing body IAAF Council in the polls to be held in August.

Elections for places on the IAAF ruling council will take place on August 19 at the IAAF congress in Beijing on the eve of the World Championships.

Sumariwalla, an Olympian 100m sprinter and nominated by the AFI to fight the polls, is among 40 nominations for nine individual places in the IAAF Council, according to the final list of candidates released by the IAAF.

As expected, track and field greats Sebastian Coe and Sergei Bubka will be the only two candidates in the IAAF presidential election. Either one of them will replace Senegalese Lamine Diack, who is stepping down after serving as president for 16 years since 1999.

Bubka is a former Olympic pole vault champion who set 35 world records. Coe is a former British middle-distance star who won two Olympic gold medals in the 1,500 meters and set numerous world records.

Bubka has also put his name down as a candidate for one of the four vice presidents' seats while Coe is only entered for president.

AFI Secretary Cuddi Kotta Valson is also among 34 nominations running for 12 individual seats in the IAAF Technical Committee.
