Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Vinod Yadav extended Kazmi's custody till July 20.
Despite the high court's direction to the CMM earlier during the day, Kazmi was first produced before Additional Sessions Judge Pawan Kumar Jain who had extended his judicial custody till today on July 3.
As soon as ASJ Jain began the proceedings, the counsel for the Special Cell apprised him of a note written by Delhi government's Standing Counsel Pawan Sharma.
The note said the high court had expressed its "displeasure" at the non-compliance of its July 2 order, which had stayed the June 8 order of Additional Session Judge Surinder Rathi.
ASJ Rathi order had questioned the magisterial court's power to deal with the cases under anti-terror law and this had resulted in a confusion over the lower courts' power on extending custody of terror suspects.

As the prosecution counsel read Sharma's note, Kazmi's counsel Mehmood Pracha argued that "the high court has been misled by the prosecution which gave a picture that a matter stayed by it has been taken up by you (ASJ Jain)."
At this, ASJ Jain, referring to Sharma's note, transmitted the matter to the court of District and Sessions Judge Sunita Gupta.
"In view of the communication dated July 5, 2012 received from Pawan Sharma, the standing counsel for Delhi, let file be placed before District and Sessions Judge immediately," said ASJ Jain, in his order, adding his court was unnecessarily dragged into the matter.
District Judge Gupta subsequently sent the case "back to the CMM for proceeding with the matter." (More)
