After brief respite, mercury soars again in Punjab, Haryana

Hisar was the hottest recorded place in Haryana at 43.1 degrees Celsius as the maximum temperatures today rose across the state and neighbouring Punjab after three days of temporary respite from heat.

Chandigarh recorded a maximum temperature of 40.4 degrees Celsius, two notches above season's normal, as per a MeT Department report.

Ambala in Haryana recorded maximum temperature of 40.4 degrees Celsius, two degrees above normal.

Karnal registered a maximum of 39 degrees Celsius, up one notch against normal.

In Punjab, Amritsar's maximum temperature settled at 40.6 degrees Celsius, one notch above normal limits.

Ludhiana and Patiala recorded above normal maximum temperatures of 40.9 and 40.7 degrees Celsius, respectively.
 

The MeT department had predicted light rain or thundershowers at isolated places in Haryana and Punjab over the next two days.
