Farmers in Telangana can now purchase seeds using the now defunct Rs 500 notes from units belonging to Central and state government and PSUs.
The state government today issued orders for accepting the demonetised notes for purchase of seeds after the Union Finance Ministry gave permission for the use as a move to provide relief to farmers during the Rabi season.
Besides using them at units of Central and state governments and PSUs, the decommissioned notes would also be accepted for purchase of seeds from National and State Seeds Corporations, agriculture universities and the Indian Council of Agriculture Research on production of identity proof, Agriculture Secretary C Parthasarathi said in a release.
The scrapped notes will be accepted as per the notification issued by the Centre on the matter, it said.
