In the backdrop of Nepal earthquake, Shiv Sena today demanded relocation of Nuclear Power Plant project from Jaitapur in Maharashtra to somewhere else saying the region was under high seismic zone.

A delegation of Shiv Sena MPs today met Prime Minister Narendra Modi demanding shifting of the project.

The MPs also reiterated their stand that such a project would harm the fragile ecology of the Konkan region.

"There are some 15-16 thermal power plants which are there or already coming up in the region. What will happen to the ecology of Konkan if the plant comes up.

"The area also falls under a high sesimic zone and an accident will wreak havoc on the entire coast," Shiv Sena MP and senior party leader Anil Desai said.

The delegation also raised the issue of nuclear waste before the Prime Minister.

"The European countries too are facing the problem of nuclear waste. How are we going to deal with it," Desai asked.

The Shiv Sena has been opposing the project ever since its inception.
