In the wake of Supreme Court order, eight prisoners who were set free by Himachal Pradesh government while they were serving life imprisonment, will be re-arrested and brought back into the jail, Chief Minster Virbhadra Singh said today.
"It has been brought to the notice of the government that as per the ruling of Supreme Court prisoners serving life sentence cannot be freed," Singh said.
The prisoners were released in January on a special concession.
"Personally, I am not in favour of arresting the prisoners who have been freed. But the directions of the court and law are above all and police chiefs of respective districts have been directed to do the needful and these prisoners would be re-arrested in view of Supreme Court directions," he added.
