Agartala-Dhaka bus set ablaze in B'desh, passengers safe

The incident took place yesterday when the bus had left here for Dhaka with 12 Indians and 10 Bangladeshis on board. It was attacked by a group of miscreants on Narsingdi highway at about 3.30 PM.

The bus driver and his assistant received minor injuries while the passengers are safe and unhurt, they said.

Tripura Chief Secretary Sanjoy Panda, who spoke to Indian High Commissioner in Dhaka Pankaj Saran, said he was told that the bus was attacked and set afire in a case of mistaken identity during a political clash in the area. The driver had sited the clash and had alighted from the bus along with his assistant and the passengers.

 

Superintendent of Police of Narsingdi district had arrived at the spot and helped the passengers, he said.

Official sources said the Indian High Commissioner spoke to the Cabinet Secretary of Bangladesh and all necessary steps were taken for safety of the passengers.
