Agra Cantonment Board polls: BJP wins one ward, 7 independents

One BJP nominee and seven independent candidates have been elected to the Agra Cantonment Board for which elections were held on Sunday.

These were the first elections which were fought on party symbols and the results were declared yesterday itself.

Out of the eight wards, BJP was able to win from only one ward while independent candidates got elected from remaining seven wards, Agra Cantonment Board Chief Executive Officer (CEO)Sonam Yangdol said.

Five candidates have been elected for the first time.

Dr Pankaj Mahendru, an independent won for the fourth term in a row from ward no 4 and his wife Renu Mahendru also got elected from ward no 2.
 

The CEO also handed over the certificates to the winners. 70.23 per cent polling was recorded for the these elections, Additional City Magistrate Kehri Singh said.

The Mathura Cantonment Board election results will be declared today.
