The youth, accused of raping and murdering a 23-year-old research scholar at an institute in Agra in 2013, had managed a spare key to gain access to the laboratory, where the girl used to do her research work, CBI has claimed.

In its charge sheet filed before Additional Sessions Judge court in Agra, the probe agency has accused then B.SC final year student Uday Swaroop of raping and killing the girl while she was alone in the lab doing her experiments at Dayalbagh Educational Institute Agra.

CBI has alleged that Swaroop, whose maternal grandfather was the then President of the Institute, managed to procure a spare key of the lab which was only given to Ph.D and M.Phil students willing to do their research beyond routine hours.

The agency said the victim was a bright student and she, along with two M.Phil students, was allowed to use the lab beyond official hours.

The agency alleged that presence of Swaroop in the laboratory used to make the victim uncomfortable as she continued to shun his overtures.

On the day of incident, March 15, 2013, Swaroop allegedly entered the lab with the intention of raping and murdering the victim knowing well that she will be alone as other students had already left.

The agency alleged that Swaroop had equipped himself with two chloroform soaked handkerchiefs and entered the culture room where the victim was working on her research all alone. Her new Maruti Alto car, gifted by her father, was parked outside the Institute.
Swaroop allegedly tried choked her using the

handkerchiefs following which a struggle ensued in which victim suffered injuries on her right hand and broke the nail of her middle finger, the agency claimed in its charge sheet.

After the victim became unconscious, Swarooop came out of laboratory and drove her car for about one and a half kilometers to give an impression that she has left the building, the agency alleged.

CBI alleged that after leaving the car at a secluded spot, Swaroop returned and raped the victim. Fearing of getting exposed, Swaroop used paper cutter and lab equipment to inflict at least 12 deep cuts on her body which proved fatal.

It alleged that he tried to clean up crime scheme using tissue papers.

CBI said the forensic evidence collected from the crime scene clearly indicate the involvement of Swaroop in the crime and there was no evidence against his alleged accomplice who was charge sheeted by the local police.

They said local police had recovered a strain of hair which matched with one of the two suspects arrested by them and was a strong piece of evidence in the case.

The sources said the agency had taken over the probe from the local police and booked a case of murder against unknown persons.

The 23-year-old native of Jammu was pursuing PhD in nanotechnology. She was found dead under mysterious circumstances in the institute's laboratory on March 16, 2013.
