Violence erupted in Uttar Banga Krishi Viswavidyalaya (UBKV) today as agitating students manhandled the dean over date of an examination and attacked journalists injuring six of them.
The students gheraoed Dean of Agriculture Tapan Kumar Hath since yesterday demanding change of examination date and he was garlanded with shoes at one point of time, UBKV officials said.
The Dean fell ill following this and he was taken to hospital.

When journalists reached the university campus to cover the incident, the students attacked them and injured six, the officials said.
Both Hath and the injured journalists were admitted to MJN Hospital here.
The students union of UBKV is run by Trinamool Chhatra Parishad (TMCP), students wing of ruling Trinamool Congress.
A police team reached the campus after being informed by the journalists who alleged that a couple of cameras belonging to them were damaged in the attack.
Journalists lodged an FIR against TMCP university unit president Puran Pokhrel and 55 others, Superintendent of Police Anup Jaiswal said adding that investigation was on.
Trinamool Congress Coochbehar district vice-president Niranjan Dutta said it was an internal matter of the university and TMCP workers were not involved.
Condemning the attack on journalists, district BJP leader Diptiman Sengupta accused TMCP workers of being involved in the attack.
UBKV Vice-chancellor Dr Chirantan Chattopadhyay neither met journalists nor took calls.
University officials said that the government has recently decided to hold the first year final examination all the agriculture universities of the state together and the students were opposed to the proposal.
