Agri worker held for cultivating ganja in owner's farm

An agriculture worker was arrested today on charges of cultivating ganja plants in a farm near Mettupalayam in the district, without the knowledge of his owner.

Based on information, police went to the farm in Mampatti and noticed the grown ganja plants there and took the worker, 44-year-old Selvam into custody, police said.

Interrogation revealed that the ganja was being cultivated without the knowledge of the farm owner. Seven ganja plants, weighing nearly 20 kg, were destroyed, they said.

He has been remanded to judicial custody and lodged in the central jail here.
