Seeking an image makeover in the era of social media, Ahmedabad Police today launched a slew of initiatives to improve communication with citizens and better its own techniques of solving cases.

One of them, 'Online Onduty', was launched by Police Commissioner Shivanand Jha.

"It is an initiative to interact with people through Facebook, Twitter and Google+ among other new-age channels of communication," Joint Commissioner of Police and In-charge of Special Branch Shamsher Singh said.

"Citizens can submit their suggestions and comments, which will help police in ensuring improved safety and security of the city," he said.

Singh said the best suggestions would be decided by a committee consisting of senior police personnel. The citizen, who submits the best practical suggestion, will get a chance to spend 'A day with a cop' - the second initiative, which will focus on functions and duties of police personnel.

'Citizen Cop' is another initiative under which police will reward those who will help personnel in uniform in cracking crimes and aid them in their work, he said.

Police will announce a 'Citizen Cop' every month.
