"The strike has ended in Ahmedabad after all the workers resumed duty today. 5,000-odd workers from four mills had gone on strike," Deputy Labour Commissioner M B Jadeja said.

The workers were on strike for over three weeks, demanding 40 per cent hike in the wages. The mills of Arvind Ltd, Ankur Mill (a division of Arvind), Ashima Mill and Asarwa Mill were impacted by the strike.

"The strike has ended and the workers have resumed duty," Arvind CFO Jayesh Shah said.

During the negotiations yesterday, on an appeal of Textile Labour Association (TLA), the managements had offered to take back the sacked employees too, after which the striking workers relented.

"All the workers have rejoined the duty. A dialogue on wage hike and interim relief will continue with the Ahmedabad Textile Mills Association (ATMA)...Decision can be expected soon now," TLA General Secretary Amar Barot said.

ATMA is a non-profit organisation working for the welfare of organised textile sector in and around Ahmedabad.

On June 4, around 200 workers at Arvind's Naroda plant went on a strike. The plant employs 3,400 workers, and primarily produces denim fabrics.

A section of workers from Ankur, Ashima and Asarwa mills too joined the strike subsequently.
