Air India and Airports Authority of India both today launched 'Vigilance Awareness Week' activities to educate the common man about the ills of corruption.

The Vigilance Awareness Week is to run between Oct. 28 and Nov. 2.

The AI vigilance department, which unearthed the LTC scam and irregularities in the complimentary free companion ticket scheme, today received kudos from the airline management for its achievements.

"The role of vigilance has assumed vital importance as Air India is aiming for a turnaround. The role of vigilance now is that of a proactive management tool," said NK Jain, Director (Personnel) of AI, while inaugurating the awareness week at Air India headquarters here.

There has been a perceptible change in the functioning of the business departments of the airline due to the work done by its vigilance department, he added.

As part of the vigilance week, AI has planned to host presentations on good governance along with essay and slogan writing competitions at regional headquarters across the country.

AAI is also observing the Vigilance Awareness Week, also between Oct. 28 and Nov. 2, at its corporate headquarters and all field stations and units.

The vigilance week will include a series of lectures on, among others, "Good Governance: Transparency and Fairness" by Ashok Chawla, Chairperson of the Competition Commission of India, an AAI statement said.

AAI celebrates Vigilance Awareness Week every year in conformity with the instructions of the Central Vigilance Commission.
