As many as 132 Army personnel on board an Air India plane escaped unhurt when a tyre of the aircraft burst after landing at the airport here today.

The incident occurred around 2 PM in the chartered flight that had taken off from Delhi, official sources said.

A total of 132 defence personnel were on board the Airbus A320, they said.

When the tyre burst, the aircraft had taxied almost a kilometre, they said, adding the runway was damaged in the incident, disrupting all flight operations.

A total of 14 flights have been cancelled, the sources said.

Five flights of GoAir, four of Indigo, two of SpiceJet and one each of Jet Airways, Vistara and Air India, were cancelled, they said.

A few hours later, Air India in a tweet said the runway had been cleared.

"Runway cleared at #Srinagar #Airport all passengers were well taken care of," it said.
