The opposition AIADMK alleged that the Puducherry government was frequently revising upward the power tariff and during the last three years increase had been effected four times.

Party leader M Ramadoss said the government was justifying the hike maintaining that it was done to make good the loss the electricity department was suffering.

He said the government should approach the Union Coal Ministry for reallocation of coal block in Naini coal field in Odisha so that the Union Territory could generate power to meet its requirements.

The government should also rope in power major Neyveli Lignite Corporation to generate electricity for Puducherry.

He also wanted the government to encourage solar power generation and raising the installed capacity of the Puducherry power Corporation in Karaikal from 32.5 megawatt to 100 megawatt.
