The opposition AIADMK today flayed the Puducherry government for "neglecting fishermen" without implementing schemes announced for their welfare.

Talking to reporters here, AIADMK legislature party leader A Anbalagan said several fishing vessels have been damaged due to lack of dredging of the estuary for the last three years.

The government had announced a cash relief of Rs 4000 to each of the fishermen families during the period of ban on fishing in the Bay of Bengal, but it was not implemented, he said.

He also criticised the government for failing to procure 50 per cent of total seats in the first MBBS course in private medical colleges.
