Opposition AIADMK today demanded a CBI probe into the charge levelled by ousted Lt Governor Virendra Kataria against the AINRC government that it plundered public money and let others also indulge in it.

Speaking to reporters here, AIADMK legislature party leader A Anbalagan said Kataria had 'very candidly' pointed out that the All India NR Congress government was plundering the treasury and "corruption is the guiding mantra for the government".

These allegations against the government-led by Rangasamy are serious and could not be ignored. A detailed probe by CBI is necessary to bring out the truth, he said.

Anbalagan pointed out that his party too had levelled corruption charges against the government, but no probe had been ordered so far.

Kataria, who was removed as Lt Governor on July 11, had yesterday accused the Rangasamy government of indulging in corrupt practices and violating the law of the land, conventional rules and regulations.

"The government is indulging in plundering public money and letting others also to plunder it," he had said.

DMK's Puducherry unit convenor M A S Subramanian had in a statement demanded that chief minister and chief secretary come out with detailed explanations to the allegations.

Meanwhile, volunteers of the women's wing of AINRC staged a demonstration here, in protest against Kataria's remarks.

They also hurled rotten eggs, cowdung and tomatoes at a portrait of Kataria they had brought to the venue.

The agitators said Kataria's comments against a popularly elected government were unpardonable and unethical.
