Amid strong indications that Jayalalithaa's close confidante VK Sasikala will take on the mantle of the ruling AIADMK, the party's general council meeting began here today.
As a first item on agenda, a resolution condoling the passing away of Jayalalithaa is expected to be adopted following which the general council members will observe silence and pay tributes to the departed leader.
Later, it is expected that the new party general secretary will be elected. Top party leaders including party presidium E Madhusudanan and Chief Minister O Panneerselvam, who is also the party treasurer are among the participants.
