: A near tense situation prevailed on a busy thoroughfare here today when a large number of residents of Uppalam Assembly segment,led by AIADMK legislator A Anbalagan, staged a dharna at the Public Health Division office of PWD, seeking clean drinking water.
Anbalagan squatted on the road along with the residents of his constituency and later told reporters that all his complaints that the water was yellowish in colour and not properly treated before supply had fallen on deaf ears.
Hence, they decided to stage the dharna, he said
A team of PWD officials rushed to the spot and assured the legislator and his supporters that remedial measures would be taken soon to ensure clean water was available, following which they gave up the dharna.
