The matter was raised by V Maitreyan (AIADMK) during Zero Hour, who alleged that the Centre was not granting the licence to the Corporation for starting operations in Chennai even though it had granted the same to nine other multiple system operators (MSOs) who applied later.
He said Tamil Nadu Arasu Cable TV Corporation, an undertaking owned by Government of Tamil Nadu, engaged in the business of providing signals to Cable Operators in the State of Tamil Nadu had applied for the licence since July 5, 2012.
"We urge the Information and Broadcasting Minister to immediately issue the Digital Access System (DAS) licence to Tamil Nadu Cable TV Corporation," Maitreyan said, adding that a delegation of TN leaders have already met the minister concerned.
He said though the Madurai High Court has issued orders for grant of early licence to the Cable TV Corporation, the same has not been issued.
The AIADMK member said the Corporation was providing cable TV signal to 22,000 cable operators which had 60 lakh subscribers. At least 100 channels, he said, were aired to people at a cheaper rate of Rs 70 per month, against much higher rate charged earlier.
