: The opposition AIADMK today requested Chief Minister V Narayanasamy to convene an urgent Assembly session for adopting a full fledged budget for the current fiscal, to expedite developmental programmes.

Addressing reporters here, AIADMK's legislature wing leader A Anbalagan said the previous AINRC government had adopted only an interim budget earmarking funds for the first six months from April for the 2016-17 fiscal.

The present government should adopt a full fledged budget so that developmental programmes could be taken up without delay, he said.

Taking strong exception to the meeting yesterday to discuss the controversy over removal of encroachments, with just two legislators (a ruling Congress member and a DMK legislator), he said Puducherry municipality has six assembly segments including the two held by AIADMK. But the Chief Minister had held discussions with two members only, keeping out the remaining four, which was an unfair approach on his part

Anbalagan also said Narayansamy should announce the government decision on 'operation encroachment' as small vendors faced the brunt of evictions, in the context of action taken by the Lt Governor.

A meeting of the Assembly would also help members to air their views on the current 'embarrassing situation arising out of eviction of encroachments', he added.

On the fiscal position, Anbalagan said the fiscal status of the Union territory was fragile and the Chief Minister should announce measures to tone it up.
