The opposition AIADMK today urged the Puducherry government to declare January 17 a public holiday, to observe the birth centenary of former Tamil Nadu Chief Minister, M G Ramachandran.
The AIADMK legislature wing leader A Anbalagan told reporters here that he had made a representation to Chief Minister V Narayanasamy to declare January 17, the birth anniversary of AIADMK founder and former Tamil Nadu Chief Minister MG Ramachandran, a public holiday in the Union Territory.
The party would hold several programmes including distribution of welfare measures to the poor and have-nots on the occasion of the late leader's birth centenary, that falls on January 17, he said.
