All India Forward Bloc's state Youth Wing Secretary Suresh was today arrested in connection with the murder of a Puthia Tamizhagam functionary at Srivaikuntam last month, police said.
Baskar, the PT secretary of Srivaikuntam, was murdered on February 22.
Five persons had been arrested on February 24 in connection with the murder.
The arrest comes a week after a petition was filed in the Madurai High court bench, seeking a CBI probe into the murder of Dalits allegedly due to inter-caste rivalry in the Southern districts of Tamil Nadu in 2013-14.
The bench had issued notice to the state on a petition by S Baskar Mathuram, PT youth wing secretary, who alleged that 12 Dalits were killed in Thoothukudi and Tirunelveli districts in the last two years.
These murders, he had charged, were committed by those of the dominant intermediate castes.
In all the murders, the accused escaped and police failed to protect witnesses. Besides, filing of chargesheet had also been delayed to save the accused, he had alleged.
Suresh had been acquitted in a case relating to the murder of Samathuva Makkal Katchi local secretary Suyambulingam more than a year ago.
