A move by the AIIMS Director R C Deka to introduce two fellowships in the foetal department headed by his wife Dipika Deka under the department of Obstetrics and Gynaecology, a few days before his retirement, was strongly opposed by a section of faculty members.
The proposal was discussed in the Dean's Committee meeting held on April 4 and faced strong opposition from the faculty members, AIIMS sources said.
In a letter to the Chairman of the Academic Committee (AC), four senior doctors alleged the minutes of the Dean's Committee meeting were not circulated and still the matter was placed before the Academic Committee as an item on its agenda.

Attempts to contact R C Deka for his comments did not fructify. Deka retires on September 30.
"The draft minutes that is usually circulated to all members of the Dean's Committee has not yet been circulated. Hence, as of now, the minutes of the Dean's Committee meeting is yet to be officially approved....", the letter said.
"In normal course, the issues discussed in the Dean Committee are taken up in the staff council for further deliberations before the matter is brought to Academic Committee. In this case, the staff council is bypassed without any apparent reason. It is reasonable to think that the issue is being fast tracked by the administration at the behest of the Director, AIIMS to facilitate the cause of his spouse," the letter said.
