AIIMS nurse mows down 60-year-old woman

A 60-year-old woman was mowed down in Mandir Marg area here allegedly by a speeding car driven by a nurse working with the All India Institute of Medical Sciences, police said today.

The accused, identified as Asha Kumari (26), who works with the cancer department of the premier hospital in the national capital, was later arrested, they said.

The incident took place at around 2:40 PM yesterday at Mandir Marg area, when Asha was driving towards Connaught Place area in her car. And, as she reached near metro pillar number 10 at the Ramakrishna Ashram Marg metro station, Geeta Devi, who was crossing the road was hit by the car.
 

"We got a PCR call around 2:50 PM from a passerby (yesterday). The nurse rushed the victim to Lady Hardinge Meidcal College and Hospital where she succumbed to her injuries at around 3:15 PM," said a police official.

Police has registered a case of rash and negligent driving causing death against her at the Mandir Marg police station.

Asha was later released on bail. However, her impounded vehicle wasn't released till this evening, the official added.

Asha's father is an Assistant Sub-Inspector in the Delhi Police and is posted at CR Park police station. The family resides in Paharganj area.
