The AIIMS Coordination Committee (ACC) today expressed disappointment over Prime Minister Narendra Modi's failure to announce AIIMS for Jammu region and urged people to get ready for a mass movement to achieve their goal.

"The people of Jammu region had hoped that Prime Minister Narendra Modi would announce AIIMS for Jammu during his today's visit here but he did not do so," chairman of AIIMS Coordination Committee (ACC) and president of Jammu Bar Association (JBA) Abhinav Sharma told reporters here today.

However, he reaffirmed faith in the Prime Minister, saying he would not disappoint the people of Jammu.

"Notwithstanding the fact that Modi did not announce an AIIMS for Jammu today, the ACC still pins faith in him. The PM will not disappoint people of Jammu region," he said.

"Narendra Modi is a man of the masses. He feels the pulse of the people. He would surely dispense justice to the people of Jammu region," he added.

The chairman of the ACC called upon the people of Jammu region to get ready for a mass movement in case the BJP fails to honour its written commitment on AIIMS by July 20.

"We are responsible people committed to the genuine cause of Jammu region. The BJP had demanded time from us till July 20, which we gave as a responsible non-political organisation representing all sections of society and interests," Sharma said.

"We will not refrain from taking recourse to methods, including call for an indefinite bandh in case the BJP breaks its solemn promise," he added.

"We have to achieve our stated objective at whatever cost. The BJP should know that the ACC leadership has used the time at its disposal for mobilising public opinion about issue of AIIMS and the people are waiting for July 20," he added.

Sharma expressed hope that good sense would finally prevail and the BJP leadership would implement its commitment in letter and spirit.

He warned the BJP of serious consequences if it went back on its written assurance.
