Country music legend Glen Campbell has lost his ability to speak as he continues his battle with Alzheimer's disease.

The veteran singer, 79, who went public with his mental health battle in 2011, has entered the final phase of the disease and his wife Kim has revealed Glen is no longer able to verbally communicate, reported Rollingstone magazine.

"He's healthy, he's content. He's lost most of his ability to communicate verbally. He has severe aphasia (impairment of language), but he still understands the universal language of smiles and kisses, and he enjoys food."

Kim, who has been married to Glen for 33 years, admits that while the past few years have been difficult, she and her family are keeping a positive attitude by simply treasuring whatever time they have with the singer.

"Life's made up of 10 per cent what happens to you and 90 per cent how you respond to it. Our family chose to rally together in love and laughter and to support one another and try to make the best of each day and cherish every moment that you have together.
