Ailing woman dies after being stuck in hospital lift

A 25-year-old woman died after she was trapped in a lift at the government-run Maharaja Yashwant (MY) Hospital here today.

The woman, identified as Shahida, was suffering from a disease related to the intestine and was being taken in the lift to the second floor of the hospital from the first floor for sonography at around 4.15 pm, hospital superintendent S D Bhatnagar told PTI.

However, the lift got stuck between the two floors for nearly 20 minutes with a total of eight people inside.

By the time the lift restarted, she had become almost unconscious. When she was taken out on the second floor, the doctors declared her dead, he said.
 

According to Bhatnagar, the woman was already unwell when she was brought to the OPD which referred her for sonography.

The exact cause of death will be ascertained and action would be taken against whoever may be responsible, he said.
