"We plan to have one gas agency in every block," Minister of State for Petroleum and Natural Gas RPN Singh told the Lok Sabha during Question Hour.

During 2009-12, public sector oil marketing companies (OMCs) have commissioned 905 regular LPG distributorships and 1026 Rajiv Gandhi Gramin LPG Vitaran (RGGLV) distributorships.

"For accelerating the spread of LPG distribution network in rural areas, OMCs have planned to set up RGGLV distributorships in 3786 locations in the rural areas of the country from 2012-13 to 2014-15," Singh said.

Sumitra Mahajan (BJP) and R K Singh Patel (SP) wanted the minister to address the issue of shortage of LPG cylinders across the country. Several members supported them.

The Minister assured the House that steps will be taken to ensure that there was no delay in distribution of gas.

He said some southern parts of the country had experienced shortage of cooking gas due to week-long strikes called by bulk LPG transporters in January and March.

"The Government has formulated the 'Vision-2015' to raise the country's LPG population coverage to 75 per cent by releasing 5.5 crore new LPG connections by 2015," Singh said.

The Minister said the Rajiv Gandhi Gramin LPG Vitaran Yojana was launched in 2009 to ensure LPG coverage in rural and under-covered areas. PTI SKU
