AIMIM MLA, supporters thrash man accused of attempting to

An All India Majlis-e-Ittehad-ul Muslimeen lawmaker and his followers allegedly beat up a 35-year-old man, accused of attempting to rape a minor girl, at a police station here even as an inquiry has been launched into the incident, police said today.

The accused S Ismail was arrested on Saturday for allegedly trying to sexually assault the six-year-old girl.

A video of the incident, in which a group of persons is seen entering the police station at Chaderghat and later thrashing the accused on May 12, has gone viral today.

Ahmed Bin Balala, the AIMIM MLA from Malakpet here, had demanded strict action against the accused.

 

After Ismail allegedly attempted to sexually assault the girl, who stays in his neighbourhood, a group of people thrashed him and later he was dragged to the police station where he was again beaten up, a police official said.

"The accused, who was allegedly drunk, was slapped inside the police station also...we are doing an internal inquiry into the incident. The footage is being verified and we will definitely act and register a case," a senior police official said.

Confirming that the MLA was present in the police station when the accused was thrashed, another senior police official said a report has been sought.

Details from the staff present at the police station are being collected and based on the facts, further action would be initiated, the official added.
