An AINRC worker has been arrested here in connection with a case related to the ATM fraud busted in March 2018 and Rs one lakh in cash, bank passbooks, cheque books and bank statements seized from him, police said.
Sathiya had supplied five Point of Sale (PoS) machines to an AIADMK functionary Chandruji, the main accused in the case, Senior Superintendent of Police Rahul Alwal (Karaikal) told reporters here today.
Based on Sathiya's confession, Chandruji has been traced and would be arrested soon, the SSP said.
With Sathiya's arrest last night, the number of people held so far in the case has risen to 10.
After the ATM fraud was busted, the owner of a computer centre and a doctor attached to a Primary Health Centre near here have been arrested, he said.
Alwal said the gang's modus operandi was to install cameras at ATM centres and collect ATM card data with skimmers. Fake ATM cards were then made and cash running to several lakhs of Rupees from various accounts allegedly siphoned off, police said.
Chief Minister V Narayanasamy had recently told the Assembly that the government would not let anyone go scot-free and that stern action would be taken against those involved in the crime.
