Air India to launch international flight from Varanasi

Prime Prime Minister Narendra Modi's parliamentary constituency Varanasi will soon be on the international air map with the national carrier Air India all set to launch a flight service to Sharjah from the temple city next month.

Air India will commence flight services to Sharjah from Varanasi from August 17, Minister of State for Civil Aviation Mahesh Sharma told PTI here.

Sharma said that Varanasi will be connected to other international destinations going forward, adding the plans in this regard are being worked.

The Government-owned Air India currently operates air services to 33 overseas destinations across the USA, Europe, Far-East and South-East Asia and the Gulf besides 50 domestic destinations, including far-flung areas of the North-East, Ladakh, Andaman and Nicobar Islands.
 

Together with its two subsidiaries - international budget arm Air India Express and regional arm Alliance Air - the airline has fleet of 132 aircraft comprising Boeing, Airbus, ATRs and regional jets.
