Airlines operators in Nepal threaten to halt service

Airlines Operators' Association Nepal (AOAN) has threatened to halt services during the upcoming Vijaya Dashami festival if the government does not roll back a hike in the price of aviation fuels.

The Nepal Oil Corporation (NOC), which is running huge loss, increased the price of petrol by Nepalese Rs 5 per litre, while the price of kerosene and diesel was raised by Rs 3 per litre.

The price of domestic aircraft fuel was also hiked by Rs 7 per litre. NOC's decision has affected normal life and government should immediately withdraw it, chairman of the association Captain Rameshwor Thapa said.
 

Thapa said that airlines operators are facing difficulties in running their business at a time when the festival season is round the corner.

Meanwhile, various student organisations enforced an hour long transport strike in the country's capital today to oppose the hike.
